They can spend all of the amount, they can put payment towards the total amount, or they can part spend their gift card.
(Eg if they only spend half, they can re use the code until it is all spent) 

IMPORTANT : Please tell your recipient to check their spam folders for their eGift card. 

The code is redeemed during the payment (stage 3) of the checkout, not in the basket page.
This means that any promotional codes can also be used

There is no expiration date for their eGift card
